Class B Driver Apprentice — $27.26–$32.47/hr

Our company in Berlin, VT is hiring Class B driver apprentices. You learn to run a straight truck, picking up and delivering freight between service centers and customers, and you also help with dock and forklift work. Training builds your driving skills on the job.

Pay

• Hourly range of $27.26 to $32.47, with a starting rate of $27.26 per hour

• Where you land in the range depends on factors such as experience, tenure, location, performance and schedule

What you'll do

• Drive a straight truck on pickup and delivery runs between service centers and customer sites

• Inspect your equipment before, after and between trips

• Load and handle freight with a forklift, pallet jack and hand truck, and secure it with straps, pallets and rope

• Repair or recoup damaged freight when needed

• Fill out delivery paperwork and collect payment for freight charges when required

• Follow hazmat rules and confirm placards match hazmat shipments when required

• Stay in touch with dispatch about delays and equipment problems, and talk with customers about their pickup and delivery needs

• Put chains on tires when conditions call for it

Requirements

• Class B CDL or a Commercial Learning Permit before you start in the role; an automatic-transmission restriction is fine

• A motor vehicle record that meets hiring standards

• Meet DOT driver requirements under FMCSA section 391

• Able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds several times a week, and to sit, bend, twist, squat and climb in and out of the truck

• Basic math and route schedule reading skills

• Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in all weather, around noise, dust, diesel fumes and DOT-regulated hazardous materials

• Able to complete training and work alone or on a team

• Hours can vary with operational needs
