Part-Time CDL-B Hiker / Vehicle Transporter — Flexible Hours

Penske Truck Leasing is looking for a part-time Hiker to move vehicles between Penske locations and customer sites in Dallas, TX. You'll mainly drive box trucks up to 26 feet, and if you hold a CDL Class A, you may also move tractors and trailers. This is casual, on-call work with hours ranging from 0 to 25 per week depending on business needs, and you'll need to be available for weekday morning shifts.

What you'll do

• Drive trucks safely to Penske or customer locations, following all required safety steps

• Inspect vehicles for mechanical, safety and emergency equipment issues and report problems to the location manager

• Collect signatures, receipts or payment when a delivery calls for it

• Report any accidents, traffic violations, defects or damage involving the vehicles

• Help out with other tasks assigned by your supervisor, which may include delivering parts or equipment for the service department

Requirements

• At least 2 years of driving experience

• A clean driving record for the past 2 years

• Valid Class B CDL; you must live in the U.S. and be licensed in your state of residence

• Class A CDL is a plus

• Comfortable working independently, following written instructions, and bringing solid customer service and organizational skills

• English language proficiency, as required under 49 C.F.R. 391.11(b)(2)

• Reliable, consistent attendance

• Willingness to travel as needed and work required hours and locations

• Must pass a background check (employment, education, criminal history) and drug screening, and complete a Penske application

• As a DOT-regulated role, you'll need a driver qualification file on hand, including an annual MVR check, a current DOT physical, and safety history from employers over the last 3 years; CDL holders also complete a DOT drug screen within 30 days of starting and are subject to FMCSA Clearinghouse checks

• This is a safety-sensitive position, so staying alert and operating safely at all times is essential

Physical demands

You'll need to see and hear well, including close, distance and peripheral vision, depth perception and focus adjustment. The job involves frequent standing, walking, sitting, reaching and hand use, regularly lifting up to 50 lbs/23 kg and occasionally up to 100 lbs/45 kg. You must be able to legally drive and safely get in and out of the vehicle and its rear cargo area.
