About this job
Our company, a family-run civil construction company in the Halifax Regional Municipality, needs Class 1 and Class 3 drivers to haul material in and around HRM. Runs are local only, so you are home each evening.
Pay
- $24.00 to $28.00 per hour, set by your experience, performance and reliability
- Full-time, permanent position
Schedule
- Monday to Friday, 6:30 am to 5:00 pm, with some late nights
- Weekend work comes up now and then
What you'll do
- Be on shift on time and let a supervisor know if you cannot make it
- Do a pre-trip inspection before each shift, generally 6:30-6:45am
- Hand in your DOT log book and work order book at the end of every shift
- Drive safely and securely at all times
- Keep the truck and its equipment clean and in working order, with a weekly grease
- Tell the mechanic about any mechanical issues
- Look for obstructions between the tires when leaving a site
Requirements
- Class 1 or Class 3 license with air brake endorsement
- Good driver's abstract and a valid license
- A positive attitude and a real commitment to safety
- Able to work Monday to Friday, with the odd weekend
- Fit for physically demanding work
- Above average record keeping skills
- Experience is expected; people who have driven dump, tandem, end dump or tractor-trailer trucks get priority
- Nice to have: knowledge of HRM and nearby areas, WHMIS and First Aid
