Local CDL-A Truck Driver — Home Most Nights

Our company is a Birmingham, Alabama wholesale grocery distributor supplying retail stores within about a 300-mile radius across Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Tennessee and the Florida panhandle. This is a local CDL-A driving position with most drivers home nightly.

Pay

• Drivers average $0.73 per mile

• Minimum starting annual pay of $57,000, with top earners reaching $91,000 based on how much a driver chooses to work

• Pay rises yearly under the union contract

• Safety and on-time-delivery bonuses worth up to $0.01 per mile each

• Part-time drivers are paid the same per-mile rate as full-time drivers, but do not receive benefits

Home time

• Routes leave from Birmingham, and 97% of drivers make it home the same night

• Dispatch runs roughly midnight to 4:00 a.m., seven days a week, though most drivers are off Sundays since only 8 Sunday routes run

• If you do get stuck on a layover, the company covers your motel and gives up to $30 for meals

What you'll haul

• Palletized grocery freight delivered in 2022 Great Dane 53' refrigerated trailers pulled by 2021 Freightliner automatic-transmission tractors, leased and serviced through Ryder

• Typical routes include about 3 stops, and every store has a pallet jack on site for unloading, with help available from store staff

Requirements

• Valid Class A CDL

• At least 2 years of verifiable tractor-trailer driving experience

• Clean driving record and clean criminal background

• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical
