Local CDL-A P&D Driver — $39.00–$41.00/hr

Our company in Pine Brook, NJ 07058 needs a local pickup-and-delivery driver with a full set of endorsements to handle tractor-trailer freight runs and occasional dock work.

What you'll do

• Run local P&D routes, hauling freight safely under company, state, federal and FMCSA rules

• Handle hazmat loads according to regulation

• Do pre-trip and post-trip checks on your tractor and trailer, catching anything that needs fixing and flagging it to Fleet Services or your supervisor

• Confirm unit numbers match your paperwork and report mismatches

• Use electronic logs and other in-cab systems

• Pitch in on the dock or at customer sites with loading and unloading when business needs call for it

• Occasionally run over-the-road trips if Safety approves and business needs require it

• Deal directly with customers and the public in a professional, courteous way

Requirements

• Valid Class A CDL

• HazMat, Tanker and Doubles endorsements (LCV may also be required)

• At least 21 years old with a minimum of 1 year driving experience, per FMCSA rules

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience

• Must live within 75 miles of the home service center or work assignment

• Registered with the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse

• Clean enough MVR to be acceptable, and solid knowledge of state and FMCSA driving laws

• Able to pass the FMCSA medical exam and a road test

• Comfortable reading and speaking English to FMCSA standard

• Can operate a forklift rated at least 7,500 lbs

• Able to push or pull a loaded pallet jack or hand truck up to 70 lbs, and lift around 70 lbs or more as the job demands

• Capable of dropping and hooking trailers, including cranking landing gear and pulling a 5th wheel pin (about 65 lbs of force), plus maneuvering a trailer dolly

• Comfortable driving manual transmission equipment and handling tasks like chaining tires

• Willing and able to drive through varied terrain (mountains, steep grades, curves, desert, bridges, tunnels) and all kinds of weather

• Able to work independently or as part of a team, under time pressure in a busy environment

• Steady work history is a plus

• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, be subject to random drug/alcohol testing and a criminal background check

• Authorized to work in the United States

This role involves frequent standing, walking, lifting, twisting, climbing, stooping and similar physical activity, along with exposure to moving machinery, varying noise levels, weather and occasionally hazardous materials.
