Light Vehicle Driver

National Defence is hiring a Light Vehicle Driver in Esquimalt, British Columbia, to join the Department's Pacific region team. This is an on-site role, and a pool of candidates may also be created for similar future positions in the area.

Pay

• $26.38 to $28.67 per hour (GL-MDO-04 level)

What you'll drive

• Passenger vehicles carrying up to 15 people, or 5-ton trucks

• You'll be trained to operate other vehicle types as needed to complete daily tasks

Schedule and conditions

• Full-time, in-person attendance for your entire scheduled shift

• Must be willing to work standby time, overtime, weekends, evenings, nights and statutory holidays

• Physical demands include lifting and carrying up to 25kg (55lbs), bending, and climbing in and out of heavy equipment

• Work may involve loud noise, fumes and dust

• You'll need to stay seated while driving for stretches of 4-5 hours and be able to get in and out of vehicles safely

• CSA-approved safety footwear and other PPE required

Requirements

• Experience driving passenger vehicles for up to 15 people, or experience operating 5-ton trucks

• English language proficiency

• Must qualify for and keep a DND 404 driver's license

• Security clearance needed: Reliability Status, Secret, or Top Secret depending on the position (Top Secret requires Canadian citizenship)

• Open to persons living in Canada, plus Canadian citizens and permanent residents living abroad

Helpful but not required

• Unrestricted BC Class 3 license with air brake endorsement, or BC Class 4 license

• Background in securing and unloading cargo

• Familiarity with driver paperwork like logbooks and inspection reports

• Experience inspecting or maintaining commercial or military vehicles

• Comfort working alongside both military and civilian staff

• Strong communication skills
