DZ Waste Collection Driver — $34.53/hr

The our company is hiring a full-time Waste Collection Operator to drive and operate garbage trucks and related equipment across the city. This is an internal posting for current City employees, working 40 hours a week on a shift basis.

Pay

• $34.53 per hour

What you'll haul

• Household and street refuse using one-person and two-person packer trucks, front loading refuse packers, and vacuum street sweepers

• Debris cleanup from streets and accident scenes, plus occasional dead animal removal

Responsibilities

• Operate assigned collection vehicles safely under minimal supervision, following all traffic laws

• Complete daily circle checks, fueling, cab and body cleaning, and report any mechanical issues

• Load refuse by hand or hydraulic lever, lifting as much as 22 kg repeatedly through the shift

• Run the vacuum sweeper in varied road conditions

• Set out warning lights and barricades as needed

• Interact professionally with coworkers and the public, and log any customer concerns

• Fill out required daily paperwork

• Work outdoors in all weather

Requirements

• Ontario Secondary School Diploma or an accepted equivalent

• Valid Class D license with Z endorsement (DZ), with more than one year of legal experience driving a DZ vehicle

• Able to work with little direct supervision

• Familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related job hazards

• Must pass a post-offer physical agility test
