CDL-B Pickup & Delivery Driver — $30.78–$35.64/hr

Our company is hiring a CDL-B driver in West Babylon, NY to move freight between service centers and customer sites. You'll run a straight truck, handle freight loading and securing, and provide direct customer service on your route.

Pay

• Starts at $30.78 per hour, with a range up to $35.64 per hour depending on experience and other job-related factors

• If you're assigned linehaul work, you're paid by the mile, plus a fixed amount for certain linehaul tasks calculated as a fraction (3/4, 1/2, or 1/4) of your hourly rate rather than by time spent

What you'll do

• Pick up and deliver freight between service centers and customers, keeping to schedule while offering friendly, professional service and looking for new business along the way

• Secure loads with pallets, straps and rope, and run pre-trip, post-trip and safety checks on your equipment

• Stay in contact with dispatch on delays, arrivals and any equipment issues

• Load and unload freight yourself or help out, using a forklift, pallet jack or hand truck as needed, and fix minor freight damage when it happens

• Keep required paperwork and records current, including collecting payment for freight charges when applicable

• Follow hazmat rules and make sure placards match what you're hauling; chain tires when conditions call for it

Requirements

• Valid CDL-B with hazmat and tanker endorsements (hazmat endorsement must be earned within 120 days of your offer, and you can't drive without it); automatic transmission restriction is fine

• At least one year driving a straight truck or similar vehicle within the last three years, or completion of the our company Driver Development Course

• Minimum age 21, with an acceptable motor vehicle record per company standards

• Strong customer service and communication skills, basic math ability, and comfort reading route schedules

• Able to lift and carry freight up to 100 pounds, and to sit, bend, twist, squat and climb in and out of the truck as the job requires

• Comfortable working both solo and as part of a team, and following training and instructions

Working conditions

Expect to work indoors and outdoors in all weather, on all types of roads, with exposure to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes and DOT-regulated hazardous materials. Hours can shift based on operational needs.
