CDL-A Owner Operator — Intermodal Drayage — Home Daily

Our company is growing its container drayage business at the Port of New York and New Jersey and wants CDL-A owner-operators based near Elizabeth, NJ. You'll run your own truck hauling containers between ports, rail yards, inland terminals, warehouses and customer sites, with dispatch and back-office support from BZL and a schedule that gets you home every day.

What you'll haul

• Shipping containers moving between NJ/NY port terminals, rail yards, inland terminals, warehouses and customer facilities

• Local and regional moves tied to the Port of New York and New Jersey

• Freight sourced through BZL's existing customer relationships, so you're not relying on public load boards

Pay

• Estimated weekly gross of $5,000.00 - $8,000.00 per week (this is gross revenue for your owner-operator business, not take-home pay)

• Weekly payouts with clear payment information

• Detention pay when it applies

• Some customer rates include extra fuel compensation

What the job involves

• Safely moving containers between terminals, rail yards, warehouses and customer locations

• Running your truck and BZL's chassis in line with FMCSA, DOT, terminal and customer safety rules

• Doing full pre-trip and post-trip checks on your truck and the chassis

• Keeping accurate logs, container paperwork and pickup/delivery records

• Staying in contact with dispatch about appointments, delays, terminal issues and route changes

• Keeping your truck road-ready and DOT compliant, and flagging any chassis issues to BZL right away

• Representing BZL and its customers professionally at every stop

Requirements

• Valid Class A CDL

• You must own or lease a roadworthy truck

• Current DOT medical card

• Valid TWIC card, or the ability to get one before starting port work

• Clean motor vehicle and safety record

• Able to pass a DOT drug screening

• Provable tractor-trailer experience with a CDL-A

• Understanding of FMCSA and DOT safety rules

• Comfortable keeping accurate logs and paperwork

• Dependable communicator with a professional approach, focused on safety and on-time service

• Container, port, rail or intermodal background is a plus but not required; same goes for NJ/NY port experience

• Roughly 1 year of commercial driving experience preferred

• English preferred

Owner-operator costs

This is an independent contractor role, so you cover the costs of running your own truck and business. BZL supplies the chassis and covers chassis maintenance and repairs, and some customer rates build in added fuel compensation.
