About this job
Our company is a family-owned reefer carrier (since 1992) based out of New Jersey, looking for experienced OTR CDL-A drivers who want to settle in for the long haul. The owners run the company hands-on and work to keep their driver group small and known by name.
Pay
- Average weekly pay of $1,800-$2,300, with average annual earnings of $85,000-$110,000 depending on home time and weekend running
- $1,250 sign-on bonus
- Linehaul percentage pay: 26% to start, 27% after 6 months, 28% after 2 years - currently averaging roughly $0.73-$0.90 per all miles
- $1,050 guaranteed weekly minimum, paid even on home weeks
- Monthly performance bonus for following protocols and on-time delivery
- Detention pay of $80/hour after the first hour, on about 70% of loads
- Paperwork turned in by Monday midnight gets paid out in full that Friday; scan documents through the company's mobile app
Home time
- Typical cycle is about 17 days out followed by 4 full days home
- Most drivers are home Wednesday and head back out Monday
- Driving is mostly on recap hours, averaging about 8 hours and 400 miles a day, with extra weekend miles available if you want them
What you'll haul
- Custom Peterbilt 389 and new Peterbilt 589 long-nose trucks, governed at 75 MPH, with drivers getting input on color and style when new trucks are ordered
- Trucks come equipped with PrePass, E-ZPass and Motive E-Logs
- About 90% of freight comes straight from direct customers rather than brokers, much of it one-pick, one-drop, no-touch temperature-controlled loads
- Roughly 50 recurring lanes run weekly, with several customer relationships going back 20+ years
- Operations are mainly east of the Mississippi - PA, OH, MI, IL, IN, NY, CT, MD, KY, NC, SC, GA, WI and nearby states - with occasional longer runs to OK, MO, AR and TX
Requirements
- Valid Class A CDL issued by your home state
- At least 21 years old
- Minimum 2 years of verifiable OTR tractor-trailer experience in the last 5 years
- Clean driving and safety record, no drug- or alcohol-related DUI/DWI in the past 5 years
- Must pass a pre-employment DOT drug screen
- Comfortable handling temperature-sensitive reefer freight and communicating with dispatch
- Must be willing to run the 17-days-out/4-days-home schedule
Benefits
- Health, dental and vision insurance, eligible after 90 days
- 401(k) with company match up to 3%
- One week of paid vacation after a year on the job
- Weekly pay with direct deposit option
- Rider program available for $25/month
- Relocation assistance
