About this job
Run local intermodal container moves out of Avenel, working a four-day week and sleeping in your own bed every night. This route covers Union and Middlesex County, and new CDL grads are welcome and trained on the job.
What you'll haul
You'll handle local container freight from Avenel, a mix of drop-and-hook and live loads, running 3 to 4+ hookups a day. Schedules run Thursday to Sunday or Friday to Monday, and holiday work is up to you.
Pay
Training pays $650 a week. Once solo, drivers average $1,200 to $1,800 a week, earning $55 per load plus $0.61 per mile. Pay is weekly, direct to your bank account.
Home time
You're home every day on this route.
Getting started as a new driver
After you apply, a recruiter calls to walk through your license and driving record first, so nothing catches you off guard. Orientation runs up to two days, with a hotel covered and your one-way bus fare reimbursed; you'll also get a $300 orientation bonus once hired. Next comes 4 to 6 weeks riding with a mentor who coaches you on backing, trip planning, logs and fueling, paid at $650 a week. After that, you're assigned your own truck from a fleet averaging 1.5 years old, with both 10-speeds and automatics available.
Requirements
- Age 21 or older with a Class A CDL
- At least 120 hours of CDL school, or 6 months of recent driving experience if you didn't attend school
- No more than 2 moving violations in the last 2 years
- No DUI or DWI in the last 10 years
- Must pass a DOT physical and a hair and urine drug screen
- Must live within 50 miles of Avenel
Benefits
After 30 days, you'll have access to medical, dental, vision and prescription coverage, a 401(k) with a stock purchase option, paid vacation, annual raises, a free online degree program for you and a family member, and a pet and rider policy once your training is complete.
The hiring carrier's name is shared with you once you apply through the DriverRoll app, where you can message them directly.
