CDL-A City Truck Driver — Starting at $32.20/hr

This is a city driving job in Quinnesec, MI. You pick up freight from customers and deliver it between service centers and customer locations, and you help bring in new business along the way.

Pay

• Starting rate of $32.20 per hour

What you'll do

• Drive tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles (and triples where they apply), as well as straight trucks

• Inspect your equipment for safety before each trip

• Couple and uncouple trailers and converter dollies

• Load, unload and move freight with a forklift, pallet jack or hand truck, and secure it in the trailer with pallets, straps and rope

• Repair or recover damaged freight when needed

• Fill out and check the required paperwork and reports

• Follow hazardous materials rules and procedures

• Collect cash or checks for freight charges when required

• Take direction from dispatch and keep them updated on delays, arrivals and equipment problems

• Talk with customers about their pick-up and delivery needs, give them good service, and pass sales leads to the sales team

• You may need to put chains on tires, and in some cases fill in as a road driver or dock worker

Requirements

• Class A CDL with double/triple, hazardous materials and tank endorsements. An automatic transmission restriction on the CDL is allowed.

• The hazardous materials endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of accepting the offer, and you can't drive a commercial vehicle until you have it

• Either one year of experience within the last three years, or completion of the our company Driver Development Course

• A motor vehicle record that meets the company's hiring standards

• Must meet DOT requirements under section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier regulations

• Drivers in states where long combination vehicles run (AZ, CO, FL, ID, IN, KS, MT, ND, NV, OH, OK, OR, SD and UT) must meet the LCV qualification and certification standards

• Able to lift and carry freight up to 100 pounds several times a week, and to sit for long stretches, bend, twist, squat and climb in and out of the truck

• Basic math, reading, writing and speaking skills

• Able to follow instructions, complete required training, and work alone or on a team

Working conditions

• You drive for the whole shift, on all kinds of roads and in all weather

• Expect noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes and exposure to hazardous materials
