About this job
Our company needs a CDL-A city driver in Lewisville, TX to move freight between service centers and customers, handling the trucking and some of the customer-facing side of the job.
Pay
- Starts at $31.26 per hour
What you'll do
- Drive tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles or triples where used, and straight trucks
- Run pre-trip and safety checks on your equipment each day
- Hook and unhook trailers and converter dollies
- Load and unload freight with a forklift, pallet jack or hand truck, and tie it down with pallets, straps or rope
- Fix or recoup damaged freight when needed
- Fill out the required paperwork and reports, and follow hazmat rules
- Collect cash or checks for freight charges when required
- Stay in contact with dispatch about delays, arrivals and equipment issues
- Talk with customers about pickup and delivery needs, and help bring in new business or pass leads to sales
- Chain tires when conditions call for it
- Fill in as a road driver or dock worker when the business needs it
Requirements
- Class A CDL with double/triple, hazmat and tank endorsements (hazmat endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of hire; an automatic transmission restriction is fine)
- One year of driving experience in the last three years, or completion of the our company Driver Development Course
- Clean enough driving record to meet our company's hiring standards
- Must meet DOT qualification rules under FMCSA section 391
- If you'll run long combination vehicles (triples, Rocky Mountain Doubles or Turnpike Doubles) in AZ, CO, FL, ID, IN, KS, MT, ND, NV, OH, OK, OR, SD or UT, you'll need to meet the LCV certification standards for those states
- Basic math and calculator skills, plus solid written and verbal communication
- Able to lift and carry freight up to 100 pounds multiple times a week
- Able to sit for long stretches and bend, twist, squat and climb in and out of the truck
- Willing to follow directions, complete training, and work solo or with a team
Working conditions
- Driving in all kinds of weather and road conditions
- Exposure to engine noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes and DOT-regulated hazardous materials
- Shift hours can shift based on operational needs
