CDL-A City Truck Driver — $31.26–$36.18/hr

Our company in Nichols, NY 13812 is hiring a CDL-A city driver to move freight between service centers and customers, including some selling and customer contact along the way.

Pay

• Starting at $31.26 per hour, with a range up to $36.18 per hour depending on experience, tenure and other job-related factors

• If you're given linehaul work, you're paid by the mile for that portion, plus set add-on pay for certain linehaul tasks (figured as a fraction of your hourly rate rather than by the clock)

What you'll do

• Drive tractor-trailer combinations, which may include doubles, triples (where applicable), or straight trucks

• Run pre-trip and safety checks on your equipment every day

• Connect and disconnect trailers and converter dollies

• Load and secure freight using forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, straps, rope and pallets as needed

• Fix or repackage damaged freight when it happens

• Keep required paperwork and reports up to date, including hazmat documentation and, at times, cash or check collection for freight charges

• Stay in contact with dispatch on delays, arrivals and equipment issues

• Talk with customers about their pickup and delivery needs, and flag new business opportunities to the sales team

• Chain tires when conditions call for it

• Fill in on road driver or dock duties if operationally needed

Requirements

• Class A CDL with double/triple, hazmat and tank endorsements (automatic transmission restriction is fine); if you don't yet have the hazmat endorsement, you'll need to get it within 120 days of accepting the offer, and you can't drive without it after that

• At least 1 year of driving experience in the last 3 years, or completion of the our company Driver Development Course

• A driving record that meets company hiring standards

• Must satisfy DOT qualification rules under FMCSA Part 391

• If running long combination vehicles (triples, Rocky Mountain Doubles, Turnpike Doubles) in AZ, CO, FL, ID, IN, KS, MT, ND, NV, OH, OK, OR, SD or UT, you'll need to meet the LCV certification standards for those states

• Comfortable with basic math, reading and writing for job documentation and communication

• Able to lift and carry freight up to 100 pounds multiple times a week, and handle sitting, bending, twisting, squatting and climbing in and out of the cab

• Able to work both independently and alongside a team, and complete required training

Working conditions

• Driving happens in all kinds of weather and road conditions, with exposure to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes and DOT-regulated hazardous materials

• Schedule and hours can shift based on business needs
