About this job

Our company is looking for box truck owner-operators to run Over-the-Road freight out of the Kansas City, Missouri area. You can drive the truck yourself or put your own qualified driver behind the wheel, and you stay in control of your own schedule.

Pay

  • Gross potential of $8,000 or more per week is possible, with a stated pay range of $6,000.00 - $12,000.00 per week.
  • our company takes a 10% cut of gross revenue on each load they book for you.
  • Actual earnings depend on your truck's specs, freight rates, the market, your operating area, and how many loads you complete. No specific revenue, freight volume, mileage or rate is guaranteed.

Home time

  • A typical rotation (not mandatory) runs 2-3 weeks on the road, Monday through Saturday, with Sunday as a rest or reset day, followed by 3-7 consecutive days at home.
  • You set your own schedule as an independent owner-operator.

What you'll haul

  • General freight across the Eastern and Central United States. West Coast lanes are not part of this dispatch service.
  • You personally review and approve every load before it's booked - there's no forced dispatch.

What the job involves

  • Running OTR pickups and deliveries on time across several states, including route planning with GPS and commercial navigation tools.
  • Doing full pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and properly securing and protecting freight in transit.
  • Operating a pallet jack and other material-handling equipment as needed.
  • Keeping accurate ELD logs, tracking your hours, and staying within DOT hours-of-service rules.
  • Logging mileage and delivery paperwork, and turning in signed bills of lading and proof of delivery quickly.
  • Keeping dispatch updated on progress, delays, breakdowns, freight issues or appointment problems, and dealing professionally with brokers, shippers and receivers.
  • Keeping your truck road-ready and mechanically sound for OTR work.

Requirements

  • You must own or control a 24-foot or 26-foot box truck; a 26-footer is strongly preferred for OTR runs.
  • Rear door opening of 94-96 inches in height, dock-height truck, and a working liftgate.
  • Onboard pallet jack, plus E-track, straps and other proper cargo-securement gear.
  • Truck must be mechanically sound and fit for general freight.
  • Active USDOT number and motor carrier authority - new MC authorities are welcome.
  • Current commercial insurance and a completed W-9.
  • Able to pass broker and carrier compliance checks.
  • Comfortable with ELDs and familiar with DOT hours-of-service rules.
  • Strong communication, time management and customer-service habits, with the ability to hit pickup and delivery windows and submit paperwork promptly.

Nice to have

These aren't required but can open up more freight options:

  • Air-ride suspension
  • TWIC card
  • Hazmat training or certification, including 49 CFR Part 172 Subpart H
  • CDL with hazmat endorsement
  • Valid U.S. passport
  • Experience hauling hazardous materials or entering ports, secured sites, or government facilities

Owner-operator responsibilities

As an independent contractor, you're responsible for your truck, your driver if you use one, fuel, insurance, maintenance, taxes, tolls, permits and staying compliant with regulations. This is an owner-operator arrangement, not a company-driver job or employment offer.

The hiring carrier's name is shared with you once you apply through the DriverRoll app, where you can message them directly.
