About this job
Our company, a commercial snow and ice management company serving the Greater Toronto Area, is looking for a seasonal salt truck driver who can also lead a crew during winter operations. You will run a salt truck and manage a hand-shoveling team on select night shifts while keeping customer sites safe and satisfied.
Pay
- A guaranteed weekly standby amount of $400-550, paid out monthly, just for staying on call
- An additional hourly rate of $25.00-30.00 for every hour you're actively working
- Your hourly earnings are never subtracted from your standby pay, so both add up together
Schedule
- This is a seasonal winter role
- You need to be reachable around the clock during active storm periods, including weekends and holidays
- When a snow or ice event is called, you must be able to respond within one hour
What you'll do
- Safely and efficiently run salting or brining equipment according to proper procedure
- Keep job sites clean and avoid damaging property or landscaping while clearing snow and ice
- Keep GPS units and dash cams running and connected at all times
- Check vehicles and equipment before each shift and handle basic shop tool upkeep
- Lead a hand-shoveling crew on certain night shifts and make sure the team understands what each customer expects
- Deal with customers professionally and courteously
- Run debriefs after storms and at season's end, logging lessons learned for future improvements
- Arrive to work unaffected by alcohol, drugs, or any medication that would impair safe equipment use
- Keep accurate daily logs of hours, job expenses, and any site issues or obstacles
- Follow all applicable health and safety rules, wear required PPE, and take part in safety training sessions
Requirements
- At least 1 year running a salt truck
- At least 1 year leading a crew
- At least 2 years of commercial trucking experience
- A valid driver's license with a clean abstract
- Reliable transportation to the yard
- Must qualify for coverage under Spartan Snow's commercial auto insurance
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Solid leadership ability, including prioritizing, multitasking, motivating others, and delegating
Equipment
You'll be working with a well-maintained fleet of salt trucks and related gear.
