DZ Truck Driver — $31.28/hr, Municipal Roads Maintenance

The our company is hiring a permanent Truck Driver to work out of the St. Clair Depot, maintaining and repairing municipal roadways. This is a union position (CUPE 4705 Outside Unit) reporting to a Foreperson in the Linear Infrastructure Services division. During winter season, drivers in this role are automatically shifted into a One Person Multi-Function Operator position for Winter Control.

Pay

• $31.28 per hour

• A reduced training rate of $29.72 per hour applies if you're hired as a development candidate still working toward full qualifications

Schedule

• 80 hours biweekly

• Shift work may be required

What you'll do

• Drive and control a truck safely under all relevant laws and company procedures

• Move staff, materials, equipment or refuse

• Load and unload using hand tools like shovels or equipment such as loaders and backhoes

• Supervise up to three workers on routine tasks

• Handle general labour duties as assigned

• Inspect vehicles daily, keep them clean, and report any mechanical issues right away

• Act as a flag person and help manage traffic when needed

• Learn and follow the City's Safety Manual and related provincial laws

• Take on other related tasks as required

• When assigned attachments like plows, wings, or salt/sand spreaders, operate them once certified

Requirements

• High school diploma (Grade 12)

• A valid Class DZ driver's licence with a clean driving record

• At least 2 years of experience driving a commercial vehicle requiring a DZ licence or higher

• Formal DZ driver training or certification is a plus, as is experience with plow, wing, or spreader attachments

• Physically able to safely operate mechanical and hydraulic equipment

• Comfortable interacting professionally with coworkers, the public, and outside organizations

• Able to read and apply written policies and instructions

• Knowledge of relevant safety laws and a strong commitment to safe work habits

• A team player

• Able to write shift reports, use a mobile radio, and complete M.M.M.S. Crew Cards

• Strong written and spoken English

• A solid record of health, attendance, and past employment

If no candidate fully meets the qualifications, the City may hire someone as a development candidate who can reach the required standard within a reasonable timeframe, at the lower training wage until fully qualified.
