About this job
Our company is hiring a seasonal Machine Driver Operator to keep the airport's runways, grounds and facilities running through the winter. You'll operate heavy equipment for snow removal and general maintenance, working airside and groundside under the Operations Manager, with full on-the-job training provided.
Pay
- From $29.53 per hour
- Full-time, 40.0 hours per week
- Fixed-term seasonal contract, 6-7 months
What you'll do
- Operate equipment such as wheeled articulating loaders, commercial trucks, and plow/wing plow trucks for winter snow clearing
- Check equipment regularly for mechanical issues and handle minor fixes yourself, flagging bigger problems to management
- Inspect your work areas, tools and PPE, and report any safety concerns or deficiencies
- Help with facility upkeep, wildlife control, vegetation removal, airside driving, radio communication, and general repairs
- Take on varied tasks that don't involve heavy equipment, like fence repair, line painting, crack sealing and building maintenance
- Train on the job to learn additional equipment such as graders, excavators, tractors, towed trailers and self-propelled snow blowers
Requirements
- Valid DZ driver's license (or equivalent that can be transferred) with Air Brake Endorsement
- At least 1 year of heavy equipment operation experience
- Snow plowing, loader operation, or truck (D/Z) experience is a plus
- Grade 12 education or equivalent
- Fluent in English, spoken and written (needed to earn a Radio Operator Certificate)
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- Able to pass a recent police records check (required for a Restricted Area Pass)
- Comfortable with physical work outdoors and indoors, and able to work independently or as part of a team under changing conditions
After you're hired
- You'll get an Industry Canada Radio License for airport use within your first 30 days
- You'll complete training for an Airside Vehicle Operator Permit (AVOP) within 30 days
- You'll finish winter operations training before doing any snow removal
- All certification, licensing and training is provided on the job
Location
This position is based onsite at our company (YYB) in North Bay, ON. You must be able to reliably commute or relocate before starting.
