Driver

This executive-level opening is for a logistics leader overseeing transportation and distribution across a multi-site manufacturer in the mining, construction-products and heavy-materials space. It is not a driving position. The role is based in Pittsburgh, PA and requires roughly 40% travel to oversee sites and affiliated operations.

Pay

• Base salary of $175,000 to $235,000 per year

• Bonus opportunity worth up to 30% of base pay

What the job involves

The person in this role builds and runs the company's overall logistics strategy, covering inbound supplier shipments, materials moving between company locations, in-process goods and outbound deliveries to customers. This spans the company's own trucking fleet, outside carriers, rail, freight forwarding, warehousing and distribution. Duties include setting shared standards for dispatch, routing, load planning, tracking and claims handling across the business and its affiliates, as well as reviewing the private fleet's performance - utilization, upkeep, driver availability, safety and backhaul opportunities - to help decide when to use in-house trucks versus outside transportation.

Other responsibilities include working with Procurement and Legal on carrier and logistics contracts, managing the logistics budget and cost-cutting initiatives, and reporting on financial results tied to freight efficiency and asset use. The role also guides technology choices (transportation and warehouse management systems, fleet tracking, route planning, ERP tools and reporting dashboards), builds safety and performance metrics, coordinates with teams like Operations, Sales, Finance and IT, handles major delivery or carrier problems, supports continuity planning, assists with acquisition reviews, and leads and grows the logistics team.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a field such as supply chain, logistics, transportation, operations, engineering, business or finance

• 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in logistics, transportation, distribution or supply chain operations

• At least 7 years in senior leadership within a multi-site industrial setting such as manufacturing, mining, steel or construction products

• Background overseeing both an in-house fleet and outside transportation providers

• Solid knowledge of truckload, LTL, dedicated fleet, rail, intermodal, freight forwarding, expedited shipping, warehousing and distribution

• Track record negotiating major contracts with carriers, warehouses, brokers and logistics providers

• Strong financial skills, including budgeting, forecasting, cost modeling and capital planning

• Comfort using data and KPIs (including spreadsheet tools like pivot tables) to drive improvements in safety, service and cost

• Familiarity with transportation and warehouse management systems, fleet telematics, ERP and business intelligence software

• Able to redesign logistics processes across multiple sites and regions

• Willing to be based in or spend significant time in Pittsburgh, PA, with about 40% travel

Preferred

• An MBA or other advanced degree in business, technical or supply-chain fields

• Certifications such as APICS CSCP, ASCM CLTD, Certified Transportation Professional or similar

• International logistics experience, including customs and import/export work

• Experience with company-wide transformation projects, standardization, new technology rollouts or merger integration

• Background designing or improving distribution networks, routes, fleet setups or warehouse locations
