Driveaway Driver — GTA to Calgary & Vancouver, Fixed Pay per Trip

Our company needs experienced commercial drivers to drive road-ready commercial vehicles one-way from the Greater Toronto Area out to Alberta and British Columbia. This is contract work, well suited to semi-retired or retired drivers who like long-distance driving but want to pick up trips on their own terms rather than work a set weekly schedule.

What you'll haul

You're not hauling freight or pulling a trailer. There's nothing to strap or tarp. Your job is simply to get the vehicle itself safely to its destination.

Routes and schedule

• Toronto to Calgary: arrival set for the morning of day 4.

• Toronto to Vancouver: arrival set for the morning of day 5.

• These are domestic Canadian trips only, so no border crossings.

• Trips are mostly one-way. Our company books and pays for your flight back to Toronto Pearson (YYZ) once you've delivered.

• You choose which available assignments to take, based on what fits your schedule and meets insurance and operational requirements.

Pay

You're paid a set amount per trip, agreed upfront based on the route and what the job involves, not by the hour. Payments go out weekly, starting the week after you begin. There's no deposit or bond required from you, though you will go through standard screening.

What's covered

Our company pays for the vehicle's fuel, approved tolls, your lodging, your return flight and related airport transfers. Meals are on you.

What the job involves

You'll drive the assigned vehicle from pickup to drop-off, documenting its condition with photos and inspections at each end, keeping your hours-of-service and Schedule 1 logs in order, staying in touch with dispatch along the way, and flagging any mechanical issues, warning lights or delivery problems right away.

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of verifiable commercial driving experience, holding a valid Ontario Class D, DZ, A or AZ licence matching the vehicle you'd be assigned.

• A clean, current driving record and commercial abstract.

• A letter from a past insurer confirming no accidents on file, needed to meet our company's insurance criteria.

• Solid understanding of commercial vehicle inspections, hours-of-service rules and the paperwork that goes with them.

• A reliable, professional approach, good safety judgment, and the ability to stay coordinated with dispatch and fellow drivers over multiday trips.

• Willingness and ability to handle the travel logistics and time away from home that come with one-way long-haul runs.

You'll also need to clear our company's insurance and screening checks before you're approved for assignments.

Location

You should be based in the GTA and able to get to pickup points reliably. Being close to Pearson or another GTA airport helps. You should also be ready for multiple days on the road and comfortable arranging your departure, delivery and return around dispatch's plan.
