About this job
Our company needs a Short Haul Driver in Edmonton, AB to move metal materials between collection sites, recycling facilities, and customer locations. You'll be part of the metals recycling transportation team, working closely with dispatch and yard staff to keep freight moving safely and reliably.
Schedule
- Monday to Friday, 6:30am to 3:30pm
- Rotating Saturdays as required
- Extra hours may be needed to cover operational demands
What you'll do
- Drive safely in line with all local, provincial, and federal traffic rules
- Operate and maneuver different vehicles and equipment during loading, hauling, and unloading
- Follow our company's and customers' safety procedures on every site
- Place and our company waste bins correctly, logging them in the tracking system
- Check loaded materials against paperwork to confirm they meet safety and regulatory requirements
- Stay in touch with dispatch to plan routes and keep service running smoothly
- Pitch in on other yard tasks as needed, such as equipment upkeep and organizing materials
Requirements
- Valid Class 1 or 3 driver's license with a clean record
- At least 5 years of experience driving in the transportation industry
- Strong understanding of Hours of Service, load securement, and driving regulations
- Experience with flatbeds, tankers, and heavy-duty trucks
- Lowbed or self-loader experience is a strong asset
- Able to handle basic vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting
- Good communication skills for working with clients, dispatchers, and teammates
- Solid time management to plan routes and hit delivery windows
- Physically able to load, unload, and complete vehicle inspections
- Comfortable using ELDs and GPS systems
- Background in waste management or recycling is a plus
