CDL-B Local Delivery Driver — $34.82/hr Starting

Our company is hiring a CDL-B straight truck driver in Portland, ME to handle pickups and deliveries between service centers and customer locations.

Pay

• Starting rate: $34.82 per hour

• Pay range: $30.08 - $34.82 per hour

• If you're assigned linehaul work, you'll get mileage pay plus fixed amounts for certain linehaul tasks, calculated as a portion of your hourly rate (3/4, 1/2, or 1/4) rather than by time spent

What you'll do

• Drive a straight truck on pickup and delivery routes, keeping to schedule while giving friendly, professional service and helping bring in new business

• Secure loads with pallets, straps and rope, and handle freight using forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, dollies and carts, including in multi-temperature conditions

• Run pre-trip and post-trip equipment and safety checks, chain tires when needed, and work in a hazmat-compliant environment, matching placards to shipments as required

• Load and unload trucks yourself or help out, fix damaged freight when you can, and step into freight handler duties when the job calls for it

• Keep dispatch updated on delays, arrivals and any equipment issues, and stay on top of paperwork, reports and collecting payment for freight charges when required

• Expect to work indoors and outdoors in all kinds of weather, lift freight up to 100 pounds, and handle noise, vibration, dust and diesel exposure as part of the job

Requirements

• Valid Class B CDL with hazmat and tanker endorsements; if you don't yet have the hazmat endorsement, you must get it within 120 days of accepting the offer, since you can't drive without it after that

• Automatic transmission restriction is acceptable

• At least one year of experience driving a straight truck or similarly sized vehicle in the last three years, or completion of the our company Driver Development Course

• Minimum age 21

• Acceptable motor vehicle record per company hiring standards

• Strong customer service, communication and people skills

• Comfortable with basic math, reading route schedules, and following instructions and training

• Physically able to sit for long stretches, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of the truck, and work solo or as part of a team
