About this job
Our company needs a tractor-trailer driver in Lafayette, IN to move trailers between service centers and turn-point locations, including doubles and triples where applicable.
Pay
- Linehaul work pays $0.8290 per mile
- Non-linehaul work pays $36.18 per hour
What you'll do
- Drive tractor-trailer combinations, including double and triple configurations
- Hook and unhook trailers and converter dollies
- Complete pre-trip and safety checks on your equipment each day
- Keep accurate logs and finish all required paperwork
- Stay in contact with dispatch about delays, arrivals, or mechanical issues
- Follow hazmat rules and procedures
- Load and unload freight when needed, and chain tires if conditions call for it
- Fill in on city driving or dock work when the business needs it
Requirements
- Class A CDL with double/triple, hazmat, and tank endorsements (automatic transmission restriction is fine); hazmat endorsement must be earned within 120 days of your offer, and you can't drive without it after that
- At least 1 year of driving experience in the last 3 years, or completion of the our company Driver Development Course
- Clean enough MVR to meet hiring standards, and you must satisfy DOT requirements under FMC regulation section 391
- In AZ, CO, FL, ID, IN, KS, MT, ND, NV, OH, OK, OR, SD, and UT, long combination vehicles (triples, Rocky Mountain Doubles, Turnpike Doubles) are run, and drivers there need to meet LCV qualification standards
- Solid basic reading, writing, and speaking skills for logs and communicating with coworkers and supervisors
- Able to lift and maneuver trailer connections requiring roughly 100 pounds of force multiple times per shift
- Comfortable sitting for long stretches, bending, twisting, squatting, and climbing in and out of the cab
- Able to work solo or alongside a team, follow directions, and complete training
Working conditions
- Long-distance driving day and night, in all weather and road types
- Exposure to noise, vibration, dust, and diesel exhaust
- Handling of hazardous materials packaged under DOT rules
- Schedule hours can shift based on operational needs, and some runs may require overnight stays
