About this job
New to trucking or coming straight from CDL school? This regional role runs out of Houston and keeps you close to Pasadena, South Houston, Deer Park and La Porte, with a paid mentor to start you off.
Pay
- $850 a week while you train with a mentor
- Your first 3 months running solo, pay is guaranteed at least $1,000 a week
- After that, expect $1,100 to $1,300 a week
- You'll typically log 1,700 to 2,000 miles weekly
- $15 extra for each stop
- Paid out weekly by direct deposit
Home time
You're back home every two weeks, often with the truck parked right at your house.
What you'll haul
Regional freight moving out of Houston, with the customer changing week to week. Mix of drop-and-hook and live loading.
Getting started
A recruiter will walk through your CDL and driving history with you first. Orientation runs no more than 2 days, with your hotel paid for and a one-way bus ticket reimbursed, plus a $300 payment once you're officially hired. From there, you'll spend 4 to 6 weeks riding with a mentor who covers backing, planning your trips, logging hours and fueling up, all while earning $850 weekly. After that, you move into your own truck, typically around 1.5 years old, either automatic or a 10-speed. Your pay won't drop below $1,000 a week for the first 3 months you're out solo.
Common questions
- Home time: every two weeks, frequently right at your door.
- Orientation costs: none to you. Hotel is covered, bus fare reimbursed, and you get $300 after hiring.
- Support on the road: your loads are mapped out ahead of time, and your driver leader is reachable by phone if issues come up.
- CDL school credit: counts if your program was 120 hours or longer.
- Slow weeks when you first go solo: your pay still won't fall below $1,000 a week for those first 3 months.
Requirements
- Class A CDL issued by your home state, age 21 or up
- Either a recent CDL grad with 120+ hours of school, or 6 months of recent driving experience
- 2 or fewer moving violations in the last 2 years
- No DUI or DWI within the last 10 years
- Must pass a DOT physical along with a hair and urine drug test

- 401(k) plus an employee stock purchase option
- Paid time off and raises each year
- A free online degree program for you plus one family member
- Pet and rider programs, so your dog can join you once you've finished training
