About this job
Our company, a family-run carrier out of Wanatah, Indiana, needs Class A CDL drivers for local dump truck runs around Northwest Indiana. You'll haul aggregate materials to job sites and be back home each night, running a stick-shift semi with a 35-40 foot dump trailer.
Pay
- You earn a cut of the revenue your truck brings in, rather than a flat rate
- Most drivers land between $70,000 and $90,000 a year, depending on how much freight you move
- Checks go out weekly
- Extra money for keeping a clean driving record (safety bonus)
- Possible bonus at year's end
Home time
Every route keeps you local, so you sleep in your own bed each night. No overnight runs. Be ready to work some Saturdays or Sundays occasionally.
What you'll haul
- Bulk loads of gravel, limestone and rock
- Drops at paving outfits, road jobs and construction sites throughout Northwest Indiana, including Gary and South Bend
- Trailers loaded to roughly 80,000 lbs gross weight
Requirements
- Current Class A CDL
- Comfortable running a manual transmission truck
- Good working grasp of DOT rules and safe operating practice
- Must clear a DOT drug screen and meet standard driver qualification checks
- Occasionally you'll need to shovel material out of the trailer bed between loads
- A year or more of Class A driving experience is preferred, especially if it involved dump trailers or aggregate hauling
Benefits
- 401(k) plan
- Medical coverage
- Optional life and disability insurance
- Paid vacation and holidays (one week off after your first year, two weeks after three years)
- Training provided, plus a referral bonus program
