CDL-A Dry Van Driver — Home Every 2 Weeks, Short Runs

This dry van role keeps you close to Desert Hot Springs and the Coachella Valley instead of sending you east for weeks. Loads stay west of the Mississippi, most trips wrap up in three days or less, and you're home every two weeks. You can start as a brand-new CDL-A graduate or come in with experience and run solo right away.

Getting started

• New grads: paid training at $850/week, riding with a mentor for 3 to 5 weeks (200-250 hours), then move to your own truck with a $1,000/week pay guarantee for your first 3 months solo. Requires completion of a CDL-A program of at least 120 hours.

• Experienced drivers: need 6+ months of recent tractor-trailer experience, skip the training period, go through orientation, and get your own truck right away with mileage pay based on your experience level.

• Both paths lead to the same lanes, home time and bonus structure.

Pay

Solo drivers typically bring home $1,000 to $1,200 weekly running 1,800 to 2,200 miles. On top of base pay, a qualified-driver bonus can add up to six cents per mile, each stop beyond the first and last pays $15, and any hands-on unload work (pallet jack, liftgate, assist) is compensated separately.

Where you'll run

Freight stays west of the Mississippi, with most runs turning around in three days or under, so you're frequently passing close to home. Drivers wanting more miles can request runs extending east of the Mississippi. Some winter driving through mountain states should be expected.

Equipment

Tractors average about 1.5 years old and come in automatic or 10-speed. Solo drivers can bring one approved dog up to 40 pounds, and an adult rider program is available. Trainees can bring a dog after completing training. Team driving is an option if you already have a partner.

Requirements

• Class A CDL, must be 21 or older

• No more than 2 moving violations in the past 2 years

• No DUI or DWI within the last 10 years

• Must pass a DOT physical and a hair and urine drug screen
