CDL-A Driver Apprentice — $25.64/hr

Our company is bringing on a Driver Apprentice in Snow Shoe, PA to train toward becoming a qualified tractor-trailer operator. You'll split your time between learning to drive and working dock/freight-handling tasks while you build your skills.

Pay

• Starting rate of $25.64 per hour

What you'll do

• Learn to operate tractor-trailer rigs, including doubles and straight trucks

• Run pre-trip, post-trip and inter-trip equipment inspections

• Connect and disconnect trailers and converter dollies

• Load and secure freight using forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, straps, pallets and rope

• Handle paperwork, freight charge collections and required reports

• Follow hazmat rules and confirm correct placarding on hazmat loads

• Stay in contact with dispatch about delays, arrivals or equipment issues

• Interact with customers on pickups/deliveries and pass along sales leads

• Fill in on road driving or freight handling when needed

• Chain tires when conditions call for it

• Follow all relevant laws, regulations and company procedures

Requirements

• Class A CDL or commercial learner's permit (CLP) before starting

• Clean enough motor vehicle record to meet hiring standards

• Must satisfy DOT qualification requirements under FMCSA Part 391

• Comfortable with basic math (calculator allowed)

• Solid basic reading, writing and speaking skills

• Able to hook/unhook trailer sets requiring roughly 100 pounds of lift force multiple times daily

• Able to lift and carry freight up to 100 pounds several times a week

• Able to sit for long stretches, bend, twist, squat and climb in/out of the cab

• Willing and able to complete training and follow instructions

• Comfortable working solo or as part of a team

Working conditions

• Driving in day and night, on all road and weather conditions

• Exposure to noise, vibration, dust, diesel exhaust and regulated hazardous materials

• Schedule/hours can shift based on business needs
