CDL-A City Truck Driver — $31.93/hr

Our company needs a CDL-A city driver in Portland, ME to move freight between service centers and customers, handling both the driving and some of the freight handling along the way.

Pay

• Starting rate of $31.93 per hour

What you'll do

• Drive tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles or triples where applicable, as well as straight trucks

• Hook and unhook trailers and converter dollies

• Load, unload and secure freight using forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, pallets, straps and rope

• Complete pre-trip and safety checks on your equipment

• Handle paperwork, hazmat compliance, and occasional cash or check collection for freight charges

• Stay in contact with dispatch about delays, arrivals or equipment issues

• Talk with customers about pickup and delivery needs, and pass along leads for new business

• Repair or recoup damaged freight when needed

• Chain tires when conditions call for it, and fill in on dock or road driver duties if operationally necessary

Requirements

• Class A CDL with double/triple, hazmat and tank endorsements (hazmat endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of your offer; you can't drive without it until then)

• Automatic transmission restriction on your CDL is acceptable

• One year of driving experience in the last three years, or completion of the our company Driver Development Course

• Clean MVR per company hiring standards, and must meet DOT qualification rules under FMCSA Part 391

• If you're driving long combination vehicles (triples, Rocky Mountain Doubles, Turnpike Doubles) in AZ, CO, FL, ID, IN, KS, MT, ND, NV, OH, OK, OR, SD or UT, you'll need to meet the LCV certification standards for those states

• Comfortable with basic math and calculators, plus solid reading, writing and verbal communication

• Able to lift and carry freight up to 100 pounds multiple times a week, and handle sitting, bending, twisting, squatting and climbing in and out of the truck

• Able to follow instructions, complete required training, and work solo or as part of a team

Working conditions

• You'll be driving in all weather and road types for your full shift

• Expect noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes and exposure to DOT-regulated hazardous materials

• Schedule and hours can shift based on operational needs
