CDL-A City Truck Driver — $31.26/hr Starting Pay

Our company is hiring a city driver in Lafayette, IN to move freight between the Service Center and local customers. You'll run tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples where applicable, and handle freight along the way.

Pay

• Starting pay is $31.26 per hour

What you'll do

• Operate tractor-trailer combinations, doubles/triples (where applicable) and straight trucks

• Complete pre-trip and safety checks on your equipment

• Hook and unhook trailers and converter dollies

• Load and unload freight with a forklift, pallet jack or hand truck

• Secure loads with pallets, straps and rope, and repair damaged freight as needed

• Fill out required paperwork and reports, and follow hazmat rules and procedures

• Collect payment for freight charges when required and keep accurate records

• Stay in contact with dispatch on delays, arrivals and any equipment issues

• Talk with customers about pickup and delivery needs, and pass along leads for new business

• Provide good service to customers both inside and outside the company

• Chain tires when conditions call for it

• Fill in on dock or road driver duties when operationally needed

• Follow all applicable laws, regulations and company policies

Requirements

• Class A CDL with double/triple, hazmat and tank endorsements (automatic transmission restriction is okay); hazmat endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of your offer acceptance, and you can't drive without it after that

• At least 1 year of driving experience in the last 3 years, or completion of the our company Driver Development Course

• Acceptable motor vehicle record per company hiring standards

• Must meet DOT qualification requirements under FMCSA Part 391

• If driving long combination vehicles (triples, Rocky Mountain Doubles, Turnpike Doubles) in AZ, CO, FL, ID, IN, KS, MT, ND, NV, OH, OK, OR, SD or UT, must meet LCV qualification and certification standards

• Basic math skills, with or without a calculator

• Basic reading, writing and communication skills for logs and reporting

• Able to lift and carry freight up to 100 pounds multiple times a week

• Able to sit for long stretches, and bend, twist, squat and climb in and out of the truck

• Able to follow instructions, complete training and work solo or as part of a team

Working conditions

• Driving in all weather and road conditions throughout your shift

• Exposure to noise, vibration, dust and diesel exhaust

• Exposure to hazardous materials packaged and shipped under DOT rules

• Shift hours can vary based on business needs
