About this job
Our company is hiring a City Truck Driver in Anderson, IN to move freight between service centers and customer locations, with some customer-facing duties included.
Pay
- Starting rate of $31.26/hour
What you'll do
- Drive tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles, triples where applicable, or straight trucks
- Complete pre-trip and safety checks on your equipment
- Connect and disconnect trailers and converter dollies
- Load and unload freight using forklifts, pallet jacks and hand trucks
- Secure loads with pallets, straps and rope, and repair damaged freight as needed
- Handle required paperwork, including hazmat documentation and, when applicable, collecting payment for freight charges
- Stay in contact with dispatch about delays, arrivals and equipment issues
- Talk with customers about pickup and delivery needs, deliver good service, and pass along potential new business leads
- Chain tires when conditions require it
- Fill in on road driver or dock duties if operationally needed
Requirements
- Class A CDL with double/triple, hazmat and tank endorsements (hazmat endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of hire; automatic transmission restriction is acceptable)
- At least 1 year of driving experience in the past 3 years, or completion of the our company Driver Development Course
- Acceptable motor vehicle record per company hiring standards
- Must meet DOT qualification requirements under FMCSA regulation 391
- If assigned to AZ, CO, FL, ID, IN, KS, MT, ND, NV, OH, OK, OR, SD or UT, must meet Long Combination Vehicle qualification standards for triples, Rocky Mountain Doubles or Turnpike Doubles
- Basic math and communication skills
- Able to lift and carry freight up to 100 pounds multiple times a week
- Able to sit for long stretches, bend, twist, squat and climb in and out of the truck
- Able to work independently or as part of a team and complete required training
Working conditions
- Driving in all weather and road conditions
- Exposure to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes and DOT-regulated hazardous materials
- Shift hours can vary based on operational needs
