CDL-A City Driver Apprentice — $27.26/hr

Our company is looking for a City Driver Apprentice in Pocono Summit, PA. You'll train on the job to build your skills running a tractor-trailer, while also helping out with dock work and forklift duties.

Pay

• Starting rate of $27.26 per hour

What you'll do

• Learn to operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and straight trucks

• Run pre-trip, post-trip, and in-transit inspections on your equipment

• Connect and disconnect trailers and converter dollies

• Load and secure freight using pallets, straps, rope, and equipment like forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks

• Fix or recoup damaged freight as needed

• Handle paperwork, reports, and freight charge collection

• Follow hazmat rules and confirm correct placarding on shipments

• Stay in contact with dispatch about delays, arrivals, and equipment issues

• Interact with customers on pickups and deliveries, provide good service, and pass along sales leads

• Fill in on road driving or freight handling tasks when needed

• Chain tires in winter conditions as required

Requirements

• Class A CDL or commercial learner's permit (CLP) before starting

• Clean enough driving record to meet company hiring standards

• Must satisfy DOT qualification rules under FMCSA Part 391

• Comfortable with basic math, both with and without a calculator

• Able to read, write, and communicate clearly

• Able to hook and unhook trailer sets requiring roughly 100 pounds of lift force multiple times daily

• Able to lift and carry freight up to 100 pounds several times a week

• Able to sit for long stretches, and to bend, twist, squat, and climb in and out of a truck

• Willing to follow directions and complete all required training

• Comfortable working solo or as part of a team

Working conditions

• Driving happens day and night, in all kinds of weather and road conditions

• Regular exposure to noise, vibration, dust, and diesel fumes

• Possible exposure to hazardous materials shipped under DOT rules

• Schedule and hours can shift based on operational needs
