CDL-A City Driver — $36.48/hr Top Rate After 6 Months

This is a city driving job at the Latham, NY terminal of Pitt Ohio, a family-owned carrier. You will pick up and deliver general freight in a tractor-trailer and handle loading and unloading yourself or with dockworkers.

Pay

• Pay starts from USD $33.32/hr.

• After 6 months you move up to the top rate of $36.48.

• Overtime kicks in right after 40 hours worked.

What you'll do

• Drive a commercial vehicle safely while picking up and delivering general freight

• Load and unload the trailer on your own or with dockworkers; mechanical handling equipment may be available

• Lift, pull, push and carry freight often, and strap down loads when needed

• Inspect your vehicle for defects and unsafe conditions as the law and company policy require

• Follow federal rules for hazardous materials

• Drive in all conditions within hours-of-service limits, keeping your logs and other required records

• Follow all company policies and all federal, state and local safe-driving regulations

Requirements

• Two years of verifiable interstate driving experience, or one year plus a diploma from a driving school Pitt Ohio approves

• Pass a Pitt Ohio driving test given by an approved trainer

• Haz-Mat and Tanker endorsements, or get them within 90 days (not required for sprinter truck drivers)

• Hold one valid license only, issued by your state of residence; if you recently moved, provide your former license details and info on all licenses held in the past 36 months

• No license suspension or revocation longer than 30 days in the past 36 months (a suspension for failure to pay or appear can be considered if you had no conviction for driving while suspended)

• No serious traffic violation citation or conviction in the past 60 months

• No more than three motor vehicle violations in the past 36 months

• No more than one at-fault accident and no more than two violations in the past 36 months

• Pass a DOT physical and a pre-employment drug screen with a negative result

• Negative drug and alcohol results from prior employers over the past three years, with no refusal to test in that period

• Consent to a ten-year work history check; explain any gap of 30 days or more and be ready to provide documentation, since discrepancies can lead to a withdrawn offer

• Read and write English and do simple math

• Accept driver-facing event recorders in the fleet

• Register with the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse at https://clearinghouse.fmcsa.dot.gov/register, which is required for all CDL drivers
