CDL-A/B Hybrid Driver, Dock & Yard Operator — $27.50/hr

Our company's LTL service center in Philadelphia, PA needs a versatile team member who can split time between local pickup-and-delivery driving, dock work, and yard hostling. You'll pitch in wherever the terminal needs support on any given shift.

Pay

• $27.50 per hour

What you'll do

• Drive Class A or B straight trucks or tractor-trailers on local routes, picking up and delivering LTL freight

• Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections per DOT rules and company policy

• Handle paperwork (bills of lading, delivery receipts, manifests) and use handheld scanners for tracking

• Secure loads with straps and load bars to prevent damage in transit

• Load and unload trailers and straight trucks using forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks

• Sort and stage freight by destination, check piece counts, and flag any damage

• Keep the dock and yard clean and organized, and help weigh or measure freight when needed

• Move trailers around the yard using a hostler truck, spotting them at the right dock doors per the schedule

• Inspect yard equipment before and after use, chock trailers properly, and set trailer brakes

• Stay alert to foot and vehicle traffic in the yard to keep things safe

• Coordinate trailer movements with dispatch, dock staff, and other drivers

• Join safety meetings and training, and help with general terminal upkeep and other tasks as needed

Requirements

• Valid CDL, Class A or B depending on the equipment

• Clean driving record meeting DOT standards

• Able to pass a DOT physical and a pre-employment drug screen

• Able to lift up to 50 lbs and run forklifts and pallet jacks

• Comfortable working outdoors and indoors in all kinds of weather

• Reliable, hardworking, and ready to work as part of a team

• Flexible with shift scheduling

• Able to read, write, and understand English, including safety rules and shipping paperwork

• Serious about following safety procedures

Forklift certification and prior LTL, freight-handling, or dock experience are a plus.

The job involves frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying of freight up to around 75 lbs (heavier items occasionally, with help), long stretches of sitting while driving, and plenty of standing, bending, reaching, and climbing in and out of trucks and trailers during dock work and deliveries. Good hearing and vision meeting DOT standards are required. Expect a fast-paced terminal environment with noise, dust, diesel fumes, and exposure to the weather, working around trucks and forklifts.
