About this job
WMATA is bringing on Student Bus Operators to go through its bus operator and CDL training program in Washington, DC. What you'll do
- Work through classroom instruction, on-route practice and behind-the-wheel experience to earn your CDL and complete bus operator training
- Learn full pre- and post-trip vehicle checks, covering tires, fluids, safety gear, gauges and controls, and report any issues found
- Follow WMATA's safety rules and procedures at all times
- Drive assigned routes, read route sheets and maps, and keep an eye on vehicle condition throughout your shift
- Fill out accident and incident reports as required
- Help build a strong safety culture by speaking up about concerns
Requirements
- At least 21 years old
- Licensed driver for 4 or more years
- CDL or learner's permit with passenger and air brake endorsements before training starts; full CDL needed by the end of the program (drivers who already hold a CDL skip the CDL portion of training)
- No more than 2 moving violations, and no license suspension or revocation from moving violations, in the past 3 years
- No prior experience needed
- Comfortable working irregular hours, split shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime
- Able to read and follow maps and timetables, communicate clearly, and stay composed under pressure
- Able to pass a medical exam tied to the job's physical demands, with accommodation if needed
- High school diploma or GED preferred; a valid CDL with passenger and air brake endorsements is a plus
