About this job
Our company in Edmonton needs an experienced commercial driver to take charge of moving jobs, not just drive the truck. You will run a 3, 5 or 7-ton truck and lead the crew on-site, owning each job from start to finish.
What you'll do
- Drive safely around Edmonton and on out-of-town or long-distance trips
- Do pre-trip checks, note any defects, and log hours accurately using Samsara e-logs
- Direct the crew: hand out tasks, keep up the pace, coach helpers, and make sure jobs are done right the first time
- Protect belongings with padding, wrapping and floor covers, then load and secure the truck
- Work alongside your crew carrying furniture and boxes, including some lifts up to 100 lbs and stairs
- Work out the customer's bill, prepare the invoice, take payment, and resolve any issues on the spot
Requirements
- At least 3 years of paid commercial driving experience in Canada on a 5-tonne or larger vehicle (straight truck, moving truck, delivery or freight)
- Class 5 licence or higher, held for at least 3 years
- A clean or near-clean driving record (fewer than 3 infractions), no at-fault accidents in the past 3 years, and no suspensions or impaired driving charges; you'll need to provide a current abstract before starting
- Real experience leading a crew or job site, where you were accountable for others' work and able to fix problems when they came up - you should be ready to share examples
- A track record of high standards: no damage, on-time jobs, accurate paperwork, and customers taken care of without being asked
- Strong spoken and written English
- Legal authorization to work in Canada
- Availability for early mornings and a flexible schedule
Pay
- $35,000 to $45,000 per year, depending on your experience and what you bring to the team
- Tips typically add another $2-4/hr
- Pay increases are tied to performance - things like avoiding damage, staying on schedule, customer feedback and how well your crew performs
- This role is a path toward foreman: strong performers leading solid crews will be considered first for foreman and operations positions as the Edmonton team grows
Benefits
- Full medical and dental coverage starts after 3 months
- Two fixed days off each week, your choice
- Uniforms supplied
- Steady work all year round
- Team events and a close-knit company culture
Schedule
- Part-time, averaging about 25 hours a week
- Extra hours available on long-distance jobs, up to 70 hours for those who want more
- Schedule shifts based on customer needs
- Early start times
- This is an in-person, physically demanding, safety-sensitive job
