Part-Time CDL-B Hiker / Vehicle Transporter — $20.25–$20.75/hr

Our company is looking for a part-time Hiker to move vehicles between its Essex Junction, VT location and customer sites. You'll mainly drive box trucks up to 26 feet, and if you hold a CDL Class A, you may also move tractors and trailers. This is a casual, on-call role with hours ranging from 0 to 25 per week depending on business needs, and you may occasionally help the service department deliver parts and equipment.

Pay

• $20.25-$20.75 per hour

What you'll do

• Drive trucks safely to Penske locations or customer sites, following proper safety steps

• Inspect vehicles for mechanical, safety and emergency equipment issues and report any problems to the location manager

• Get signatures or receipts for delivered goods and collect payment when needed

• Report any accidents, traffic violations, defects or damage involving the vehicles

• Take on other tasks assigned by your supervisor

Requirements

• At least 2 years of driving experience

• A clean DMV driving record for the past 2 years

• Valid Class B CDL, with residency and licensing in your state of residence (U.S. domiciled); Class A CDL is a plus

• Able to read and follow written instructions

• Strong customer service and organizational skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to work independently

• English language proficiency, per federal requirement 49 C.F.R. 391.11(b)(2)

• Reliable, consistent attendance

• Willingness to travel as needed, work required hours and location, complete a Penske application, and pass a background check (employment, education, criminal history) and drug screening

• As a DOT-regulated role, you'll need a driver qualification file on record, including a yearly motor vehicle record check, a passed DOT physical, and safety history checks from past employers covering the last 3 years. CDL holders are also subject to a DOT drug test within 30 days of starting and ongoing FMCSA Clearinghouse checks

Physical demands

• Good vision (close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment) and hearing

• Frequent standing, walking, sitting and moving, along with reaching and using your hands

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs/23 kg regularly and up to 100 lbs/45 kg occasionally

• Able to safely and legally operate a vehicle and get in and out of it, including the rear cargo area

This role is safety-sensitive under DOT regulations, requiring constant alertness and a strong focus on your own safety and that of others.
