About this job
Haul refrigerated freight over the road, moving fresh and frozen food from Midwest distribution centers out to grocery distributors nationwide. This role suits a seasoned driver who's fine with extended time away from home, mountain routes, winter driving and a schedule built around regular layovers.
Pay
- $10,000 sign-on bonus, available for a limited time
- Drivers in this role over the past 6-12 months have averaged around $100,000 a year in earnings
- Holiday pay of $200 per day
- Actual pay depends on miles run, loads, assigned routes, availability and other factors
Routes and freight
You'll run a multi-state network covering WA, OR, CA, AZ, NM, CO, KS, TX, MN, NE, WI, IA, IL, IN, TN, MO, OH, MI, KY, PA, NC, SC, VA, GA, FL, NY, NJ and MA. The company tries to keep drivers mostly in the Midwest and Southwest, but you need to be willing to go wherever customer freight takes you. Loads mix single-stop and multi-stop deliveries, trailers come preloaded except when you're grabbing a backhaul, and customers handle the live unload themselves - expect around 3 hours per unload on average. You'll also pick up your own backhauls, and you may sometimes be asked to help out on other DCS/JBI accounts when needed.
Schedule
This is a genuine OTR job that calls for flexibility. You'll typically work six days straight, then take a required 34-hour reset, and you need to be open to working any six days depending on customer demand. Most weeks bring 2-3 resets out on the road and 1-2 back at home. Start times usually fall between 4:00 AM and 9:00 AM, shifts run about 11-13 hours, and you can expect roughly 5 layovers a week.
Requirements
- Able to chain up tires when weather demands it
- Comfortable handling mountain pass driving
- Willing to run anywhere across the account's operating territory
- Able to handle long stretches away from home
- Meets all CDL, DOT, safety and company qualification standards
Training
New hires train in Ogden, Utah. CDP covers your travel there, and hotel stays are covered both during training and for any training-related layovers. Training includes actual OTR driving time, pays $200 per day, and starts with paid online orientation.
Benefits
- PTO starts building from your first day
- 401(k) with a company match
- Medical, dental and vision coverage available after 30 days
- Life insurance options
