OTR CDL-A Driver Trainer — $95,000–$105,000/yr, Home Weekends

Our company, based in Lancaster, PA, is looking for an experienced OTR Class A driver to train new drivers on the road. You'll ride along with trainees in a dual-occupancy sleeper cab, teaching them the skills they need for a safe, successful driving career.

What you'll do

• Teach vehicle handling (manual and automatic transmissions), defensive driving, trip planning, and ELD/FMCSA logging

• Guide trainees through pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections so they can spot and handle maintenance issues

• Train and oversee proper load securement, including flatbed and step-deck tarping

• Evaluate trainee progress, give practical feedback, and act as their main mentor on the road

• Keep training records and make sure every session meets FMCSA, DOT, and OSHA standards

• Represent the company professionally to clients and the public

Pay

Listed pay is from $105,000 per year, with the job overview citing a range of $95,000-$105,000 annually plus added trainer incentive pay.

Home time

This is a full-time OTR role with steady miles. Expect at least two days home most weekends after 5-7 days out on the road.

Requirements

• Valid Class A CDL with a clean record over the last 3 years

• At least 3 years of verifiable OTR driving experience

• Prior experience training, instructing, or mentoring commercial drivers strongly preferred

• Strong hands-on knowledge of tractor-trailer operation, manual transmissions, and air brakes

• Flatbed and step-deck tarping expertise required

• Solid grasp of FMCSA rules, DOT compliance, and traffic safety laws

• Strong communication skills and the patience to coach adult learners in close quarters

• Willing and able to be on the road full-time (100% travel) with a trainee in the cab
