About this job

Our company, operating since 1974, needs a Class A CDL driver to run local routes hauling mail for the USPS out of Richmond, VA. You'll drive a 53-foot tractor-trailer on consistent weekly routes and be home at the end of every shift.

Pay

  • Base pay of $27.89 per trip hour
  • Plus $5.55 per trip hour in fringe benefits pay, which can add up to a maximum of 86.67 hours per semi-monthly pay period
  • Combined, that's $33.44 per trip hour
  • Paid twice a month by direct deposit, on the 10th and 25th

Home time and schedule

  • You return home after every shift since these are local runs
  • You'll run the same routes week to week
  • Because the work supports USPS operations, your schedule may shift based on real-time postal needs

What you'll haul

You'll operate an automatic-transmission day cab pulling a 53-foot trailer loaded with mail and related freight, following DOT and federal safety rules on every trip. Logging is done through a Samsara electronic device, and you'll handle standard pre- and post-trip inspections.

Requirements

  • At least 21 years old with a current DOT physical
  • Class A CDL held for at least 2 consecutive years
  • Clean Clearinghouse record, with no more than 2 combined tickets or accidents in the past 2 years
  • Either 12 months of tractor-trailer experience within the last 3 years, or 2 years within the last 5 years
  • Must pass a road test, drug screen, and background check
  • Able to follow instructions and comply with DOT safety procedures
  • English required; must be able to commute to or relocate to Richmond, VA 23230

Physical demands

The job involves bending, kneeling, crouching, and climbing in and out of the cab and buildings. You'll push mail equipment on wheels weighing up to 800 pounds, open and close trailer doors weighing roughly 50 to 100 pounds, and work in trailers that can reach about 110°F inside. Expect to walk 1 to 2 miles a day around postal facilities, move up to 20 rolling carts or two 42-letter carts, and use a 15- to 20-pound pole to operate manual dock plates.

Benefits

  • Paid vacation: 40 hours after 1 year, 80 hours after 2 years, with more added as you stay longer
  • All 11 federal holidays paid at 8 hours each; if you work a holiday, you get your regular shift pay plus holiday pay
  • Medical, dental, vision, retirement, disability, whole life, accident, and critical illness coverage
  • Supervisors available around the clock

The hiring carrier's name is shared with you once you apply through the DriverRoll app, where you can message them directly.
