About this job
Our company is a small, owner-operated hotshot carrier based in Michigan, running a ¾-ton pickup with a 40' flatbed trailer (combined GVWR under 26,000 lbs, so no CDL needed) plus a few box trucks. You'll haul time-sensitive freight across the country, often with short notice, on an OTR schedule.
Pay
- You're paid through a profit-share model at 60% of net profit, not by the mile or hour.
- Profit is figured weekly: load revenue minus operating costs like fuel, insurance, maintenance, tolls and depreciation.
- Typical weekly earnings run around $2,000, though this varies with performance and how much freight is moving. Posted pay is $2,004.84 per week.
Schedule
- OTR work on a 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off rotation, with some flexibility.
- Home base is Michigan; the job itself is on the road.
What you'll haul
- Time-critical loads secured with straps, chains and binders for safe, damage-free delivery.
- You'll run a ¾-ton pickup towing a 40' flatbed trailer on long-distance routes.
What the job involves
- Driving safely and professionally over long distances.
- Keeping up with DOT and FMCSA rules, including ELD use and Hours-of-Service logs.
- Doing pre-trip and post-trip inspections and flagging mechanical problems right away.
- Keeping the truck, trailer and tool storage clean and road-ready.
- Filing paperwork on time: BOLs, load entries and rate confirmations.
- Staying in touch with dispatch and ownership during your shifts.
- Carrying basic roadside tools (impact gun, breaker bar, basic toolkit) for minor fixes.
Requirements
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Experience towing a trailer; flatbed plus pickup experience preferred.
- Solid grasp of how to secure loads properly.
- Available for OTR work on the 2-on/2-off rotation.
- Basic mechanical know-how covering tires, fuses, lights and fluids.
- Able to pass drug and alcohol testing.
Preferred
- Past hotshot trucking experience.
- Familiarity with ELDs and DOT compliance work.
- Long-haul or OTR driving background.
- Good customer service skills.
