About this job
Our company is hiring a forklift operator for 2nd shift at its Chicago, IL manufacturing site. You'll keep materials moving through the plant so production, shipping and receiving stay on track and customer orders go out on time.
What you'll do
- Run forklifts safely, following OSHA rules and company procedures
- Deliver materials to production lines as scheduled
- Set up materials for production, shipping and storage
- Check quantities, labels and locations before moving anything
- Log inventory moves using RF scanners, barcodes or the warehouse system
- Check your forklift before each shift and flag any problems right away
- Help with cycle counts and inventory checks
- Keep your work area clean, organized and safe
- Follow safety, quality and environmental standards, and support Lean/5S improvement efforts
Physical demands
- Operate powered equipment for most of the shift
- Stand, walk, bend, reach and twist often during the day
- Lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Meet the vision and physical standards needed to run a forklift safely
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving plant environment
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- At least 1 year of forklift experience in a manufacturing, warehouse or distribution setting
- Willing to get certified after being hired
- Basic computer skills; familiarity with RF scanners or inventory software is a plus
- Able to read work orders, shipping paperwork and inventory tags
- Strong attention to detail and a safety-first mindset
- Available for overtime and weekend work as needed
