DZ Spare Board Commercial Driver — $35.87/hr

WM is hiring a Spare Board commercial driver at its Nanaimo, BC site to cover absent drivers' routes, pick up overflow work and fill in during vacations. This is a unionized role operating heavy-duty trucks with front, side or rear-load attachments on commercial waste and recycling pickups.

Pay

• Starting wage is $35.87 per hour.

Schedule

• Day shift, ten-hour shifts, four days a week, starting at 6:00am.

• Scheduling shifts based on business needs since this is a spare board role; considered full time but hours aren't guaranteed at 40 per week.

• Other tasks are assigned to help reach 30 to 40 hours weekly.

What you'll haul

• Pick up containers of waste or recyclable material from commercial accounts, some weighing over 1,000 pounds, which may need to be rolled into position for pickup.

• Drive through busy streets, driveways, alleys and parking lots, with strong backing skills needed for the job.

• Fully empty each container and leave customer sites clean before moving to the next stop.

Requirements

• At least one year behind the wheel of a vehicle needing a Class 3 license or higher, or one year of equivalent military driving experience within the past 7 years.

• Legally able to work in Canada and hold a valid SIN.

• Current DZ or Class 3 license (or higher).

• Minimum age 18.

• Must pass a pre-employment drug test, physical exam, background check, prior employment verification and driving record review; a clean driving history is required.

• High school diploma or GED preferred, not required.

• This is a safety-sensitive position subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random checks, post-incident testing and reasonable-suspicion screening, per company policy and government rules.
