About this job
Our company is hiring a Class 1 driver in Sparwood, BC to collect hazardous and non-hazardous waste from client sites using flatbed trailers. The schedule runs Monday through Friday, with occasional travel and overtime as needed.
What you'll do
- Drive flatbed and dry van trailers, maneuvering into tight loading and unloading spots
- Complete pre-trip, en-route and post-trip inspections, and report any defects, damage or incidents right away
- Load, secure and transport bins and materials, sometimes using a trailer-mounted forklift (Moffett)
- Identify, classify and handle hazardous waste according to safety rules
- Fill out and check waste manifests, bills of lading and other regulatory paperwork
- Follow TDG, weights and dimensions, OH&S and hours-of-service rules, including electronic logbooks
- Represent GFL professionally at client sites and look for chances to grow the business relationship
- Join safety meetings, job hazard assessments and last-minute risk assessments
Requirements
- Valid Class 1 license with a clean commercial driving record
- Experience hauling both dry van and flatdeck trailers
- Manual transmission experience
- Comfortable driving in all weather; chaining-up experience is a plus
- Willing to travel for out-of-town work (living-out allowance provided)
- Forklift or Moffett experience is a strong asset
- Able to lift 50+ lbs and handle cargo with good manual dexterity
- Comfortable with both paper forms and mobile apps/computer systems
- Must pass pre-employment and site drug and alcohol testing
- First Aid/CPR, CSTS, TDG or H2S Alive certifications are a plus; training provided if you don't have them
