About this job
Our company Group is looking for Class 1 drivers for a full-time seasonal limestone-hauling contract supporting the Newmont Brucejack project, based out of Smithers, BC. You'd be running Super B side dumps, Super B end dumps, or quad end-dump trailers between the Smithers area, Dahl Lake Quarry near Vanderhoof, and the Brucejack staging area near Stewart.
Pay
- Trip-rated pay works out to $42–$45 per hour; your exact rate and how it's calculated will be explained before you accept.
- Non-local drivers may qualify for flat-rate travel pay, with details confirmed during hiring.
- Posted annual pay range: $131,000.00–$155,000.00.
Schedule and rotation
- Full-time, seasonal position.
- Typical operating days are Monday through Saturday, though this depends on your rotation, dispatch needs, weather and the project.
- Rotations are negotiable and will be worked out between you and the company.
- Three shift setups are available depending on equipment and project needs: Smithers-based day cabs shared between two drivers on roughly 10-hour cycles; sleeper-truck runs with up to 13 hours driving and 14 hours on duty; or day-cab work where you arrange your own accommodation, also up to a full workday. All of this runs within hours-of-service rules, rest requirements and site fatigue policies. Your specific route, shift pattern and living arrangement get confirmed before you start.
Accommodation and living allowance
Non-local drivers who qualify get a daily living-out allowance based on their housing setup: $75/day in a hotel, $150/day staying in a sleeper-equipped truck, or $200/day if you provide your own accommodation while on day-cab work. This gets finalized before your start date.
What you'll haul and drive
You'll move limestone using Super B side dumps, Super B end dumps, or dump trucks pulling quad end-dump trailers. Equipment assignment depends on project needs and will be confirmed ahead of time.
The job
- Operate your assigned truck/trailer safely, with full pre-trip, en-route and post-trip inspections, reporting any defects right away.
- Load and dump safely, checking ground stability, clearance and conditions first.
- Stay within legal weight limits and secure loads properly.
- Chain up when conditions call for it and adjust driving for mountain roads, snow and weather.
- Keep accurate paperwork: bills of lading, scale tickets, time records and e-logs.
- Follow site and company procedures, including radio protocols and access rules.
- Keep dispatch updated on delays, equipment issues and progress.
- Hand off clearly to the next driver when sharing a truck.
- Keep your box clean to avoid contaminating the limestone load.
- Work well with loading crews, site staff, customers and other drivers.
What you need
- Valid Class 1 licence, air brake endorsement, and a clean driving record.
- Manual transmission experience.
- Comfort driving in snow and installing chains.
- Confidence on mountain routes in rough weather.
- Super B side dump, Super B end dump, or quad end-dump trailer experience is a plus — let them know which types you've run.
- Solid written and spoken English for safety instructions and recordkeeping.
- Physically able to chain up and inspect equipment.
- Comfortable with a smartphone and in-truck ELD.
- Reliable, safety-focused, and able to work independently while following dispatch direction.
Benefits
After 90 days on the job, you become eligible for a fully company-paid benefits plan (Stromsten covers 100% of premiums), including dental, extended health and prescription drug coverage, vision, life and disability insurance, chiropractic and massage therapy, plus an Employee Assistance Program.
Before you start
Expect a road test, equipment evaluation, onboarding, and any required drug/alcohol testing or site-access checks. If you move forward, you'll need to provide your licence, two employment references, and a driver's abstract pulled within the last 10 days.
The hiring carrier's name is shared with you once you apply through the DriverRoll app, where you can message them directly.
