About this job

Our company in West Kelowna, BC needs a Class 1 Driver to move wine and grapes throughout the Okanagan Valley all year. Most of your runs connect the winery with warehouses and partner locations, and when harvest hits you'll be hauling grapes from the vineyards to the crush pad.

Pay

  • $30.00-$36.00 per hour depending on your experience
  • Plan on 40 hours a week

What you'll haul

  • Palletized, cased wine moving between the winery, bottling facility, warehouses, retail spots and partner sites
  • Bins or gondolas of freshly picked grapes heading from the vineyards to the crush pad, mainly September through November

What the job involves

  • Loading and securing product carefully so nothing shifts, breaks or takes temperature damage, then unloading the same way
  • Checking loads against the bills of lading and flagging any damage or shortfall
  • Navigating tight vineyard roads, steep grades and rough ground
  • Running pre-trip and post-trip inspections and keeping your hours-of-service logs accurate
  • Running a forklift, and a tractor at times, to shift bins around
  • Pitching in on yard, warehouse or cellar tasks when things are quiet

Requirements

  • Current BC Class 1 license with air brake endorsement, or an equivalent you can transfer to BC
  • At least 2 years behind the wheel of a Class 1 rig, tractor-trailer included
  • Comfortable with load securement practices, pre-trip checks and HOS regulations
  • Capable of working without close supervision, mapping your own routes and handling issues on the road
  • Open to driving a 5 tonne truck or a pickup with trailer as the job demands
  • Physically able to repeatedly lift 50 lb and handle outdoor work in both summer heat and winter cold
  • Flexible for early starts, weekend shifts and the longer, less predictable hours that come with harvest season
  • A forklift certificate, tractor experience or knowledge of Okanagan roads will work in your favor, though not required

Schedule

Normal week runs Monday-Friday on day shifts. Expect that to stretch during harvest, with weekend work and starts called on short notice.

Benefits

  • Paid days off
  • Staff discount at the cafe, tasting room and restaurant

The hiring carrier's name is shared with you once you apply through the DriverRoll app, where you can message them directly.
