CDL-A Road Driver Apprentice — $26.84–$31.97/hr

Our company in Kent, WA is looking for a Road Driver Apprentice. You'll train to run tractor-trailer combinations between service centers and turn-point locations, and may also help out with dock work and forklift duties when needed.

Pay

• Starts at $26.84 per hour, with a posted range up to $31.97 per hour depending on experience, tenure and other job-related factors

What you'll do

• Learn to handle tractor-trailer setups, including doubles and straight trucks

• Run pre-trip, post-trip and in-route inspections on your equipment

• Connect and disconnect trailers and converter dollies

• Keep accurate logs and complete required paperwork

• Stay in contact with Dispatch about delays, arrivals, equipment issues and similar updates

• Follow hazmat rules and make sure placards match the shipment when hauling hazardous materials

• Fill in on city driving or freight handling duties when the operation needs it, using equipment like forklifts, pallet jacks or hand trucks

• Chain up tires when conditions call for it

• Deliver solid service to both internal teams and outside customers

Requirements

• Class A CDL or commercial learner's permit (CLP) before starting in this role

• Clean motor vehicle record that meets company hiring standards

• Must satisfy DOT requirements under FMCSA Part 391

• Comfortable with basic math, calculator optional

• Able to read, write and communicate clearly

• Capable of connecting and disconnecting trailers requiring roughly 100 pounds of lift force multiple times per shift

• Able to sit for long stretches, plus bend, twist, squat and climb in and out of the cab

• Willing to complete training and follow directions

• Comfortable working solo or alongside a team

Working conditions

• Driving happens day and night, in all weather, on every type of road

• Expect noise, vibration, dust and diesel exhaust on the job

• You may be around hazardous materials packaged and shipped per DOT rules

• Schedules can shift based on operational needs, and some runs may involve overnight stays
