About this job
Our company's private fleet is looking for a CDL-A regional truck driver to run out of its Sterling, IL facility. You'll haul no-touch freight on predictable schedules with consecutive days off every week, driving newer equipment for a company that pays for more than just your miles.
Pay
- Regional drivers can earn up to $110,000 in their first year.
- Base pay is a per-mile rate of $0.55-$0.69, with the typical driver logging between 62,355 and 196,040 miles a year (actual pay depends on location and miles run).
- On top of mileage, you're paid extra for tasks like hooking/unhooking, live loads and unloads, layovers, bridge crossings, chaining up, weekend runs and evening shift work.
- Certain situations, such as accidents, breakdowns, weather closures, or waiting on a trailer, are compensated with activity pay alone.
- You may also receive Average Daily Pay of $240 for full-day events like PTO, safety days, holidays, bereavement or jury duty.
- Quarterly safety bonuses and yearly raises are part of the package.
Home time
Expect to be home weekly, with consecutive days off built into your schedule every week.
What you'll haul
Freight is no-touch, and you'll be running optimized regional routes while following all traffic and DOT rules to keep deliveries on time.
What the job involves
You'll plan your own day, coordinate with your team to keep loads moving, and stay on top of communication and problem-solving on the road. The role includes pre-, during-, and post-trip inspections of your tractor-trailer, accurate completion of logs and paperwork, and a steady commitment to safe, professional driving.
Requirements
- Valid Class A CDL for interstate driving, with a Hazmat endorsement (or willingness to obtain one, with a cleared background check, within 120 days of hire).
- At least 30 months of full-time Class A tractor-trailer experience within the past 3 years, or completion of the our company Fleet Development Academy Program.
- No more than 2 moving violations in the past 3 years, and no serious traffic violations in that time, whether in a personal or commercial vehicle.
- No preventable collisions in the past 3 years, and no preventable DOT-recordable accidents (ones causing disabling damage or requiring medical treatment at the scene) in the past 10 years.
- No history of a preventable accident resulting in a fatality or catastrophic injury.
- You must live within 250 miles of the assigned facility, or be ready to relocate within that radius within 90 days of your start date, and keep your permanent residence there as a condition of employment.
Benefits
- Paid time off starts right away, with up to 21 days available in your first year, plus PTO/PPTO that can cover vacation, sick time, holidays or other needs.
- Medical, dental and vision coverage available from day one.
- 401(k) with up to a 6% company match, plus a stock purchase option.
- Company-paid life insurance and short-term disability coverage, with long-term disability also offered.
- Up to 4 paid safety days per year.
- An Associate Discount Card after 90 days on the job.
- Additional perks include a referral program, rider program, driver mentor program, and parking available at our company locations.
- Live Better U, a Walmart-funded education program covering tuition, books and fees for things like high school completion, certificates, or a bachelor's degree.
- Other support includes parental and family care leave, bereavement and jury duty pay, military leave pay, and adoption/surrogacy expense reimbursement.
