About this job

This OTR seat runs freight across all 48 states, mostly east of I-35, for drivers near Middletown, Franklin, Trenton, Monroe or Hamilton, Ohio. You'll get a guaranteed weekly floor for your first 6 months, a sign-on bonus, and freight you never have to touch. Minimum 3 months of tractor-trailer experience required.

Pay

  • $1,500 guaranteed per week for your first 6 months, or your per-mile earnings if they come out higher
  • Drivers in the top 20% at this terminal average $1,700 a week
  • Mileage pay runs $0.57 to $0.64 per mile depending on experience, calculated on Rand McNally miles
  • Monthly bonus of up to $0.03 more per mile for safety and productivity
  • Loyalty raises: an extra $0.03 per mile once you hit 1 year, climbing to +$0.06 at 4 years
  • $4,000 sign-on bonus, spread across your first 6 months
  • Weekly direct deposit
  • The $1,500 floor applies as long as you're available Monday through Friday, follow the 12-days-out/2-days-home pattern, accept assigned loads and avoid preventable accidents

Home time

Expect 12 days on the road followed by 2 days home. You won't be dispatched into New York City.

What you'll haul

Expect around 2,500 miles weekly, averaging about 550 miles per haul. Roughly 50 to 60% of your stops are drop-and-hook; the remainder are live loads handled by the customer. Freight stays hands-off for you the whole way.

Pay for delays

  • Detention: $12.50/hour after the first 2 hours
  • Layovers or breakdowns: $100 per day
  • Orientation: $100 per day, held over 3 days in Springfield, OH, with your hotel and bus fare covered

Equipment

You'll be assigned a 2021 or newer Freightliner Cascadia or Kenworth (fleet average age around 2 years), equipped with an automatic transmission, double bunk and a 1,250-watt inverter. Take it home on your days off. Dash cams point outward, not at you.

Riders and pets

  • Bring one dog or cat (up to 80 lbs) for a $500 fee, split into $50 weekly plus $10 weekly
  • Bring one rider age 10 or older for $27/month in insurance costs

Benefits

Kick in after 30 days on the job.

  • Medical, dental and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with up to a 5% company match
  • Paid vacation starting after year one, plus annual raises
  • CDL school loan repayment assistance, up to $150 a month and $7,000 total
  • Per diem program

Requirements

  • At least 21 years old with a Class A CDL from one state
  • 3 months of tractor-trailer experience within the last 36 months (lesser experience may qualify with a road test)
  • No more than 2 moving violations in the past 2 years, and no preventable major accident in the past 5 years
  • Clean of DUI/DWI for 10 years if you held a CDL at the time of the offense, or 5 years if you didn't
  • No more than 3 employers in the past 12 months
  • Must pass a DOT physical and a hair and urine drug screen
