About this job
Our company needs a CDL-A co-driver to team up with one of its owner-operators running OTR. You'll split the wheel time on a truck under contract with our company, and pay is based only on the miles you personally drive, not combined team mileage.
Pay
Training pay is $0.54 per mile, with the length depending on your experience: 4 weeks if you have under 3 months OTR experience, 2 weeks if you have 3 to under 6 months, or 1 week if you have 6+ months. Once training is done, your rate becomes $0.63 per mile, then rises to $0.72 per mile after your first 3 months on the job.
On top of CPM, you can earn a weekly bonus tied to your personal mileage (only the highest tier applies, not stacked):
- $50 for 2,500–2,999 miles
- $100 for 3,000–3,499 miles
- $150 for 3,500–3,999 miles
- $200 for 4,000+ miles
There are also one-time bonuses for clean DOT inspections, paid in addition to mileage bonuses when you have the paperwork to back them up:
- $200 for a clean Level I
- $100 for a clean Level II
- $50 for a clean Level III
For reference, at $0.63 per mile, driving 3,000 miles in a week earns $1,890 plus the $100 mileage bonus, for $1,990 total. At $0.72 per mile (after 3 months), that same 3,000 miles earns $2,160 plus $100, for $2,260. Actual weekly miles aren't guaranteed and depend on freight, dispatch, weather and other conditions.
Home time
Typical rotations run about 2 weeks out with 3 days home, or about 3 weeks out with 4–5 days home. Your actual schedule depends on freight and dispatch needs, and our company says it will work with you to set something reasonable while keeping OTR operations consistent.
Requirements
- Valid Class A CDL
- Meets Schneider and DOT driver qualification standards
- Clean enough MVR to pass review
- Verifiable CDL-A work history
- Able to pass required background checks and DOT drug/alcohol testing
- Comfortable team driving OTR for multi-week stretches
- Reliable, punctual, and professional in communication
- Keeps logs, inspections and paperwork in order
- Takes care of shared equipment and follows safety rules
Our company prefers at least 3 months of OTR experience, with 6+ months being a strong plus. Because this is a team role, you'll need to work well with another driver over long stretches on the road, and the company is especially interested in drivers looking for a long-term fit as the business grows.
