About this job

Our company is a family-owned reefer carrier out of Ohio, running since 1992, looking for a small group of experienced OTR drivers who want to stick around for the long haul. You'll pull mostly repeat-customer freight in top-spec Peterbilt 389 and 589 long-nose trucks, and the owners know their drivers by name.

Pay

  • Average weekly pay of $1,800–$2,300, with average annual earnings of $85,000–$110,000 depending on home time and weekend runs
  • $1,250 sign-on bonus
  • Linehaul percentage starts at 26%, moves to 27% after 6 months and 28% after 2 years; 26% currently works out to roughly $0.73–$0.90 per all miles
  • $1,050 guaranteed minimum pay each week, even if you're home
  • Monthly bonus tied to following company procedures and on-time delivery
  • Paperwork turned in by Monday midnight pays out in full on Friday; you can scan documents straight from the company's mobile app

Home time

  • Typical cycle runs about 17 days on the road followed by 4 full days at home
  • Most drivers are home Wednesday and head back out Monday
  • Driving is mostly on recap hours, averaging about 8 hours and 400 miles a day, with chances to run extra miles on weekends

What you'll haul

  • About 90% direct customer freight rather than broker loads
  • Much of it is one pickup, one drop, no touch
  • Roughly 50 regular weekly lanes, with some customer relationships going back 20+ years
  • About 70% of loads pay detention at $80 per hour after the first hour past the scheduled pickup or delivery time
  • Main operating area is east of the Mississippi — Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, New York, Connecticut, Maryland, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Wisconsin and nearby states — with occasional longer runs to Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas and Texas

Equipment

  • Peterbilt 389 and newer Peterbilt 589 long-nose trucks, including recent 2027 589 models, with some choice in style based on driver preference
  • Drivers can weigh in on the color when a new truck is ordered
  • Trucks are governed at 75 MPH and equipped with PrePass, E-ZPass and Motive E-Logs

Requirements

  • Valid Class A CDL from your home state
  • At least 21 years old
  • At least 2 years of verifiable Class A OTR tractor-trailer experience in the last 5 years
  • Clean driving and safety record
  • Able to properly manage temperature-controlled freight
  • Must pass a negative DOT drug screen before starting
  • No DUI/DWI drug or alcohol convictions in the past 5 years
  • Professional, reliable attitude and good communication with dispatch

Benefits

  • Medical, dental and vision coverage starting after 90 days
  • 401(k) with up to 3% company match
  • One week of paid vacation after a year on the job
  • Weekly pay with direct deposit available
  • Monthly performance bonus
  • Rider program available for $25 per month in insurance costs
  • Detention pay on qualifying loads
  • $1,050 weekly pay guarantee and $1,250 sign-on bonus

The hiring carrier's name is shared with you once you apply through the DriverRoll app, where you can message them directly.
